Support Groups

Homeschoolers have created networks of support to provide a way to make friends, get ideas and information, and to offer positive socialization opportunties to their children. You can join in! There are many groups to choose from, many with specific affiliations, like Christian groups or unschoolers’ groups. Some are eclectic, inclusive, and open to anyone. Whatever your interest, you are sure to find other like-minded parents. And if you don’t find what you are looking for, we’ve put together tips for starting your own group.

What is an Umbrella School?

Some families use an umbrella school as one of their state’s legal homeschooling options. Others use a cover school to make some aspects of homeschooling, such as transcripts and graduation, easier. Reasons for using an umbrella school include compliance with homeschooling laws and guidance on curriculum or course choices. 

Live Education!
Live Education! produces homeschooling supplies for families inspired by a Waldorf perspective. They offer individualized curriculum and pedagogical support (K-8) to form the basis for full-time home education or to supplement traditional schooling.
Homeschool Library Connection
The library can be an awesome resource for homeschoolers, but is useless if it doesn't carry the books that homeschoolers need. The sole purpose of the Homeschool Library Connection email list is to help homeschoolers make purchasing suggestions to their public libraries.

The Daisy Chain Persuasive Essay $1000 College Scholarship Award
This scholarship contest is sponsored by Beautiful Feet Books and Hewitt Homeschooling Resources. After reading The Daisy Chain by Charlotte M. Yonge, write a persuasive essay examining Yonge's position on ambition and duty as it would relate to educational and career choices for today's homeschooler. The deadline for this scholarship competition is April 30, 2006.
